Leeds United legend’s personal collection set for auction

The family of Leeds United legend Norman Hunter are set to release a collection of his memorabilia at the upcoming June Four-Day Sporting Auction, with estimates suggesting the items could collectively fetch over £30,000. Lots 734 to 755

One of the centrepieces of the sale is Hunter’s rare white Leeds United F.A. Cup Final tracksuit top from 1965 (Lot 734). The historic Umbro top, embroidered with “F.A. CUP FINAL 1965” and lettered “LEEDS UNITED” across the back, was worn by Hunter at Wembley on 1st May 1965, when Leeds faced Liverpool in the club’s first ever FA Cup Final appearance.

Lot 734

The Norman Hunter Collection comprises Lots 734 to 755, offering an extraordinary archive spanning the career of the England International and Leeds cult hero - a man so revered in the city that a stand at Elland Road now bears his name. This will be the first time these items, directly from Hunter’s family, have been offered publicly.

Lot 735

Bidding for Hunter’s items will take place on Day 3 of the auction - Heroes & Heroines of the Beautiful Game, which includes Lots 657 to 969 and celebrates icons from across football history.
Joining Hunter in the line-up are two more celebrated Leeds United legends:

  • The Harry Duggan Collection (Lots 707 to 733) showcases the career of the Irish Free State and Leeds United winger, including a rare highlight - a green and white match-worn Irish Free State shirt from 1927 (Lot 707), worn in an international fixture against Italy B in Dublin. Estimated at £2,000-3,000, the shirt is offered with family provenance and is presented in its original condition. In total, the Duggan collection is expected to fetch £25,000 and includes a range of early 20th-century items that reflect his time with Leeds United and his international career across several Irish teams.
  • The Jackie Charlton Collection (Lots 760 to 762) includes a standout red No.19 England airtex shirt from the 1970 World Cup (Lot 760), estimated at £3,000-5,000. Worn during England’s title defence in Mexico, it’s joined by two of Charlton’s match-issued international caps. One from a 3–0 win over Wales in 1967 (Lot 761), and another from a 1–1 draw with Romania in 1969, in which Charlton scored England’s goal (Lot 762). Together, these rare pieces offer a glimpse into the international career of one of England’s 1966 World Cup-winning heroes.

With Leeds United’s recent Championship triumph and return to the Premier League, anticipation is high in the city and beyond, making this one of the most significant football-related sales of the year.
