Lester Piggott's William Hill Golden Spurs Special Award Trophy, circa 1970s/1980s in electroplated sculptural form with three spurs enclosing a textured spire with horse head finial, mounted on ebonised socle base bearing plaque inscribed WILLIAM HILL GOLDEN SPURS SPECIAL AWARD LESTER PIGGOTT, overall 40 by 10cm. The modern era of racing awards was probably ushered in by bookmakers William Hill whose 'Golden Spurs' were given to leading performers in the sport from 1972.
