A California Tennis Championship Singles Trophy, dated 1905 won by Ethel B. (Bridget) Ratcliff (aged 22), inscribed First Prize Women's Singles, the trophy was manufactured in quadruple silver plate by the Barbour Silver Company from Hartford, Connecticut, 22cm high, with 10 pages of biographical/tennis career notes.
Ratcliff was born at Blackheath, Kent in 1883 and lived in California from 1895 until 1911 when she married and then returned to England, having never applied for U.S. citizenship. Living in Leamington Spa, she was a justice of the Peace for more than 20 years and was an honorary vice-president of the Warwickshire branch of the Red Cross Society. She died (aged 81) on 30 November 1964, in Royal Leamington Spa
